Amber Heard has officially informed the Virginia Court of Appeals that she intends to appeal the decision in her multimillion-dollar defamation case against Johnny Depp.

In documents presented on Thursday, the Aquaman star’s legal team alleged that mistakes made during the trial had blocked a “just and fair verdict.”

The six-week trial at Fairfax County District Court was presided over by Judge Penney Azcarate, who recently rejected Ms. Heard’s complaints about improper jury duty.

“We believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment,” a spokesperson for the actress said, following the filing’s submission.

“We are therefore appealing the verdict.

“While we realise today’s filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice.”

The defence team for Ms. Heard had previously argued that a mistrial should be declared due to “newly discovered facts and information” regarding the jury.

According to the attorneys, one of the people who had been initially summoned to serve in the trial had not shown up and had been substituted.
