Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer appears to be a movie office hit based on its initial poster. The background of Nolan’s biopic of J. Robert Oppenheimer features a massive ball of fire, with the tagline “The World Forever Changes.” Along with a foreground image of Cillian Murphy as one of the fathers of the atomic bomb.
Kenneth Branagh, Michael Angarano, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, and Matthew Modine are among the ensemble cast members of the Universal film.
Murphy will play J. Robert Oppenheimer, who assisted in the development of the A-bomb during World War II but afterwards had his allegiance to the United States called into doubt by hawkish government leaders.
The character of Oppenheimer is based on Kai Bird and the late Martin J. Sherwin’s 2005 Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. The project, Nolan’s first film not produced with his old studio home, Warner Bros., was won by Universal in a bidding war.
The sign observes Oppenheimer was filmed on Imax 65mm and 65mm large-format film. Nolan hired Hoyte van Hoytema as the director of photography, who had previously worked with him on Tenet, Dunkirk, and Interstellar, as well as Jennifer Lame as the editor and Ludwig Göransson as the composer.
The North American theatrical release date, set by Universal, is July 21, 2023. Nolan has a long-standing tradition of having a release in the month of July.
