Andy Cohen Addresses ‘Alarming’ Antisemitism in light of Lizzy Savetsky’s
What I can also tell you is that the reaction I’ve received when I’ve spoken out against antisemitism has been extremely unsettling, he continued.
We are currently experiencing “very messed up, crazy times,” according to Cohen.
He says, “Social media, in my opinion, only makes things worse. It’s a very difficult time. As an American Jew, I find it depressing to observe the rise of antisemitism.”
At a Watch What Happens Live filming at BravoCon 2022 in October, the cast for RHONY’s 14th season was revealed. Sai De Silva, Ubah Hassan, Erin Dana Lichy, Jenna Lyons, Jessel Taank, and Brynn Whitfield were also scheduled to appear in Savetsky’s film.
The new season is presently in production and is scheduled to debut in 2019. However, Savetsky made her intention to depart public on Wednesday, blaming it on “a deluge of antisemitic assaults.”
She posted on Instagram, “I will not be continuing on the Real Housewives of NYC. “I believed that taking part in this series would be a wonderful opportunity for me to represent people like me and to share my story as a proud orthodox Jewish woman. Unfortunately, I began to experience a wave of antisemitic remarks as soon as I was announced to the cast.”
She went on, “I came to the conclusion that this road was no longer the best one for my family and I as it went on. I’m eager to start my next chapter. Stay tuned, and many thanks for your help!”
“After thorough deliberation and discussion with Lizzy, we have reached the mutual conclusion that Lizzy will not be a cast member on RHONY,” Bravo said in a statement provided to PEOPLE.
The announcement of Savetsky’s departure coincides with a rise in anti-Semitism in popular culture.
Recently, Kanye West faced criticism for threatening to “kill con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.” His remarks drew criticism from his celebrity colleagues, caused the closure of several of his commercial enterprises, and cost him his billionaire status.
The Brooklyn Nets also placed Kyrie Irving on indefinite leave after he shared an anti-Semitic movie link on social media. The 30-year-old NBA player responded to the criticism by claiming that he “meant no disrespect to any one group, race, or religion of people” and that he wanted to be a “beacon of truth and light.”
The Brooklyn Nets and Irving both announced that they will be giving $500,000 to organisations that work to “eradicate bigotry and intolerance.”
