Mandy Moore doubts to appear in “Princess Diaries 3”
We have an issue, Gupta. Although Mandy Moore has serious doubts that she will be a part of Princess Diaries 3, she would be thrilled to return as Lana Thomas.
“I wasn’t a part of the second movie. I would find it hard to believe that my character would ever come back for a third film,” the This Is Us alum, 38, exclusively told Us Weekly on November 7. “I would totally be down because I had so much fun being a part of the first one. But yeah, I find it hard to wrap my head around the idea that Lana, unless she sort of turned her life around, would not expect her to be a part of that story. I will watch it regardless!”
The Princess Diaries, a renowned comedy from 2001 starring Moore, Anne Hathaway, Julie Andrews, and Queen Clarisse Renaldi, was followed by a sequel in 2004 with Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis and Andrews’ Queen Clarisse Renaldi.
“I wish I had their numbers and texted them on the regular!” Moore told Us, noting that she has not spoken with them about a new installment. As for playing the high school mean girl, she quipped: “[It’s] so much more fun than playing the good girl, I have to say.”
The Dating Lives of the Cast of “This Is Us”
This week, it was made public that a third film was formally under production. But Hathaway hasn’t committed yet. The 40-year-old Oscar winner admitted in October that she was “pulling” for a new movie and the opportunity to go back to Genovia. “I believe we could make it work if Julie Andrews could somehow be involved. At the time, she said to Entertainment Tonight, “We would go to where she was, set up a green screen behind her, and simply make it happen.
The renowned Sound of Music actress, 87, though, might not be as enthusiastic about the plan. She told The Hollywood Reporter in June that she believed it would be too late to act at the time. “Many, many years ago, there was talk of a sequel. However, I don’t believe it ever materialized. Garry eventually left us. (The first two movies’ director, Garry Marshall, passed away in 2016 at the age of 81.)
She added: “[For], especially me, it’s too far down the line now to go back to it. It’s a lovely thought, but I don’t think it would probably be possible.”
Heather Matarazzo, Hector Elizondo, Caroline Goodall, Robert Schwartzman, Erik von Detten, Patrick John Flueger, Sean O’Bryan, and Sandra Oh also starred in The Princess Diaries.
The movies are adaptations of Meg Cabot’s book series. According to reports, the most recent screenplay is being written by Aadrita Mukerji, who has written for shows like Supergirl and Reacher.
