Cameron Douglas and Michael Douglas will once again collaborate on a major motion picture. The real-life father-son team will play father and son in the upcoming family drama Blood Knot, directed by Howard Deutch, nearly 20 years after they co-starred with the late patriarch Kirk Douglas in the 2003 dramedy It Runs in the Family.

According to a press release, Blood Knot is based on Bob Rich’s 2015 book looking Through Water and “follows a father who asks his estranged son to visit him in Puerto Rico to compete in a father-son fishing competition to try and restore their shattered relationship.”

According to Deutch, who is well-known for helming episodes of TV shows like Young Sheldon and Empire, Blood Knot “is a movie about atonement, love, and forgiveness.”

According to the press release, Deutch, 72, adds, “About several generations of a family brought together and torn apart by mystery, murder, and true confessions, with a castled by Michael and Cameron Douglas.” “I am beyond excited to begin production on Blood Knot.”

The role of Blood Knot is the first acting project that Michael, 78, and Cameron, 43, will undertake together since the latter was freed from jail in 2016 after serving nearly eight years for drug-related offenses.

With partner Vivian Thibes, Cameron is the father of Ryder, 22 months, and Lua, 4 years old. In 2019, he told the news that he was attempting to relaunch his acting career and that he was really appreciative of his family for never giving up on him.

The author of The Long Way Home expressed the hope that through sharing his experience, other addicts might “get help – and maybe save a life.”

Michael expressed gratitude for how his oldest son’s situation ultimately played out. (The actor has two children with his wife of 21 years, Catherine Zeta-Jones: Dylan, 22, and Carys, 19; Cameron, his sole child with his ex-wife Diandra Luker, is also his kid.)

“I’m very proud of [Cameron], not only for the book but for how he conducts his life,” Michael said. “He’s talking the talk and walking the walk.”

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news of Blood Knot.
