‘SNL’ Cold Open Tackles Roe v. Swim, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp Trial
Saturday Night Live's May 7 virus open addressed Roe v. Swim, Florida...
Cecily Strong is leaving after 11 seasons
Cecily Strong is bidding Saturday Night Live adieu. The comedy sketch show’s official Instagram account said that Strong, 38, will make his final appearance as a cast member before the Christmas episode airs on Saturday night. Austin Butler will host the attack, including Lizzo as the musical guest.
“One of the best to ever do it is being said goodbye tonight. Cecily, we’ll miss you!” SNL posted a picture of a placard that said, “We’ll miss you, Cecily,” accompanying the statement.
Along with a picture of Strong portraying one of her numerous personalities on Weekend Update next to Michael Che, the tweet also featured a video of Strong doing her best Jeanine Pirro impersonation.
Strong only planned to participate for half of the current SNL season because she is eager for fresh possibilities.
Fans responded to the news of Strong’s departure by expressing their regret to lose her in the comments section.
“No way. One user added, “You will be missed,” while another described her departure as a “big loss.” Another was added: “Nooooooo. She is unquestionably a legend.”
In season 38 of SNL, in September 2012, Strong made his debut. She started presenting Weekend Update the following year, first with Seth Meyers and then Colin Jost, before Che, then 39, took over at the beginning of season 40.
Along with Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon, she was elevated to repertory player with season 39 in September 2013. (McKinnon, 38, and Bryant, 35, both quit the series later.)
Strong became the female cast member with the longest tenure in the history of SNL with her return for season 48, her 11th overall, surpassing McKinnon.
Strong was nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series at the 72nd and 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards in 2020 and 2021, respectively, while she was hosting the late-night program.
The Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with at a Party and Cathy Anne were two of her well-known recurrent characters.
Throughout her time on SNL, she also played several other characters, including Sofia Vergara, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and numerous members of Donald Trump’s inner circle, including Melania Trump, Ivana Trump, and Kimberly Guilfoyle.
The comedy sketch show SNL is currently in its 48th season and is undergoing a significant cast shakeup. After the season 47 finale, longtime series regulars McKinnon, Pete Davidson, Bryant, and Kyle Mooney left.
On September 15, NBC announced the names of the four new featured performers that will appear on Saturday Night live in season 48: Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker.
Strong will next appear in season 2 of the Schmigadoon! AppleTV+ series is executive produced by the man behind Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels. The actress also works on the program as a producer.
Following the episode from Saturday night, SNL will return in 2023.
