Though Liz was looking for stability, Ed admitted he isn’t ready to marry “anyone,” including his fiancée. “I can’t give you an answer on marriage right now,” he said.
Later, in an interview, he stated that marrying Liz in their current state would be “a contract for divorce.”
Liz added, “I know, as I’m thinking about the future now, wanting to be secure—” after Ed reiterated he was “just not ready.” “I’m not going to be pressured into getting married,” Ed said.
Liz stated that she only wanted to “think or talk” about marriage after their engagement. However, Ed cut the conversation short by repeating that he was “not ready.”
“I’m not telling you I don’t want to marry you,” Ed said as the couple’s tension grew. “I’m not saying that, baby. I’m just not prepared.”
After restating he was not “ready” a few more times, Liz left the room.
“Ed proposed to me, and I want to spend my life with Ed,” Liz told the cameras. “Perhaps now is the time for me to issue an ultimatum.”
“I think Ed and I are too different to make this work long term,” she added.
Earlier in the season, Ed and Liz called it quits after an engagement party blowout. Ed claimed Liz was secretly a lesbian during the fight, and he was adamant she was withholding information about herself in their relationship. They eventually reconciled after Ed apologised for his accusations. Following a second engagement party, Ed and Liz decided to focus on the foundations of their relationship rather than planning a wedding.
