A brand-new R-rated romantic comedy in the works from Sony Pictures will star Top Gun: Maverick star Glen Powell and actor Sydney Sweeney, who has been nominated for two Emmy Awards (Euphoria). The movie will be helmed by Friends with Benefits director Will Gluck, who is back in the genre after helming a number of family films like Peter Rabbit and Annie.

The specifics of the plot, including the film’s title, are still a secret. According to Deadline, though, Gluck rewrote the script that Ilana Wolpert originally wrote for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. The movie’s filming is anticipated to start at some point before the end of next month. Later this year, when the movie begins production, more information will probably become available.

The next romantic comedy from an accomplished director in the genre could be a pleasure for spectators when it premieres in the future because it has two brilliant leads. Gluck will produce the movie alongside Jeff Kirschenbaum and Joe Roth in addition to directing and rewriting the script. The planned motion picture is executive produced by Sweeney, Natalie Sellers, and Alyssa Altman of RK Films.

Sweeney has been nominated for two Primetime Emmys for her performances in popular television programs like Euphoria and The White Lotus. Sweeney is slated to star in Reality, an upcoming drama film from director Tina Satter, as well as National Anthem, a crime drama from director Tony Tost, in addition to the eventual release of the untitled romantic comedy. With the debut of Madame Web, in which she will co-star with Dakota Johnson, who portrays the title character, she will also enter Sony’s Spider-Man universe. She will executive produce and star in the upcoming Barbarella reboot, continuing her relationship with Sony Pictures.

Prior to this, Powell co-starred with Zoey Deutch in the 2018 romance comedy Set It Up on Netflix. With the release of Top Gun: Maverick, in which he co-starred with Tom Cruise and Miles Teller, his career reached new heights. He recently co-starred in the war movie Devotion with Jonathan Majors (Lovecraft Country), which is based on a true story, after the success of the long-awaited sequel. He has a role in the upcoming romantic comedy with no title, but he also has a role in Richard Linklater’s upcoming action movie Hitman.
