We still haven’t seen the last of M3GAN, it’s official! The release date of the latest bizarre horror film has been set for 2025. Stars Allison Williams (Get Out) and Violet McGraw (The Haunting of Hill House) will return to play Gemma and Cady in M3GAN 2.0. The sequel’s screenwriter Akela Cooper will also be back for its production, which will be overseen by Williams as well as the sequel’s producers, James Wan and Jason Blum of Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions, who are both renowned horror filmmakers. Although no director for the follow-up has been named as of yet, it’s probable that Gerard Johnstone will return. The release date of M3GAN 2.0 is set for January 17, 2025.

Model 3 Generative Android, or M3GAN, is based on the lifelike doll that has the same name and is designed to be a child’s best friend. She can observe, learn, and listen as it acts as a playmate, teacher, friend, and protector to her young pals. When Gemma chooses to give her niece Cady an M3GAN prototype, the results are bloody and violent, with many casualties. Cooper previously acknowledged writing a far grimmer version of the film, despite the fact that it was PG-13 rated and targeted at a considerably younger audience.

However, the rating had little impact on how people felt about the film. On a $12 million budget, M3GAN has so far produced $91 million worldwide thanks to wild viral marketing and a killer doll premise. Even before the movie became a box office smash, producers Jason Blum and Wan publicly stated their want to film another killer-doll movie, so it’s already making money for its makers. Blum previously acknowledged the likelihood of a sequel, saying,

“After I first saw the movie, we had a good sense that a sequel might really work. So, we broke our cardinal rule and started talking about a sequel before the movie was released. I felt so bullish that we started entertaining a sequel earlier than we usually do.”

The sequel will be produced by Blum, Wan, and Williams, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott of the Atomic Monster banner serving as executive producers. Ryan Turek, from Divide/Conquer, will executive produce for Blumhouse alongside Mark Katchur, Adam Hendricks, and Greg Gilreath.

The film also stars Jenna Davis as the voice of M3GAN and Amie Donald as the title character in addition to Williams and McGraw. In addition to Ronny Chieng as David Lin and Lori Dungey as Celia, other actors including Jen Van Epps as Tess, Brian Jordan Alvarez as Cole, Jack Cassidy as Brandon, and more also appear.
