Mia Goth claims “MaXXXine” is the best script in the “X” Trilogy

One of the best years in the history of horror was 2022. Mia Goth, who played the lead role in Ti West’s critically acclaimed slasher movies X and Pearl, was one of the actors at the core of that. In addition to scaring audiences once more later this month in Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool, Goth will soon be seen again as Maxine in MaXXXine, the third and concluding installment of West’s X trilogy. Horror fans still have a lot of questions about the movie, but Goth recently touted MaXXXine as having the finest script of the trilogy in an interview for Infinity Pool with Variety.

“It’s the best script of the three by far. It’s going to be the best movie of the three. We’re all so tight now. This is going to be our third movie we’re working on together and everyone’s coming back together, so it’s bringing the band all back together again,” Goth said. The actress continued saying:

“We just have a shorthand with each other. We know how everybody works and we’re all so excited. It’s the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes and Maxine has gone through so much at this point. So when we find her in this new world, she’s just a force to be reckoned with and she goes through some pretty wild adventures.”

Goth said, “Yeah, I’m in prep with the script, doing my studies, and getting everything ready. MaXXXine will start filming this year. Once you’re on set, you let it all go and simply hope that magic happens. Goth’s dual performances as Maxine and Pearl in the horror film X in March of last year gave the horror genre one unforgettable crazy ride.

While Pearl was an elderly woman whose aspirations of becoming a dancer and famous celebrity were depressingly behind her, Maxine was a hopeful want to be a Hollywood star full of life. The fact that Maxine and her boyfriend exploited Pearl’s land to film an adult movie combined with her mounting jealousy causes Pearl to lose her cool. She went on a homicidal rampage in the manner of a classic slasher. Then, in Pearl, West turned the horror genre on its head by portraying a younger Pearl in a 1918 fantasy that quickly devolved into a terrifying nightmare.

Whether it was X or Pearl, Goth delivered three of the year’s top performances. She should be receiving more recognition from awards, as her spiral into lunacy in both movies has become instantly recognizable. Prior to 2022, we had no idea who Maxine or Pearl was; nevertheless, because of the murderous instincts of the Goth, horror lovers can no longer envision the genre without them. Goth is one of horror’s current favorite scream queens, whether it was due to her unsettling facial expressions that would shift on a dime, her infamous Pearl speech, or the fact that she could convincingly play a woman who was decades older than she actually was.

Both X and Pearl, which focused on the 1970s and Hollywood’s exploitation era while Pearl was a massacre from the golden age, had their own distinct and horrifyingly evil takes on the “American Dream.” The specifics of MaXXXine’s narrative are yet unknown, but it will revolve around Maxine in the 1980s after she killed Pearl and take place during the VHS age of the entertainment business. That would thrill any fan of the genre, but learning that Goth believes MaXXXine is the greatest written in the series makes them giddy. Especially in light of the fact that Pearl and X are among the best horror movies of the previous ten years in terms of writing.
