Blumhouse Productions recently added a new project to its ever-growing list of upcoming films. The horror-focused production firm is once again collaborating with fellow genre heavyweight Atomic Monster to create the supernatural thriller, Night Swim. With Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon cast in the major parts and a potential release date already determined, production on the film is progressing quickly.

2014 critically praised short film of the same name that Bryce McGuire and Rod Blackhurst co-wrote and directed is the inspiration for Night Swim. In the short film, a tenebrous night stalker chases a woman who is unwittingly relaxing in her backyard swimming pool every night from a distance. This undiscovered source of anxiety is quite genuine and seriously endangers its victim. “No jogging. Don’t dive. A lifeguard is not present. Do not swim after dark “The production team’s brief, the menacing logline for the future movie suggests that it will contain the same chilling aspects that made the short a success.

McGuire is an AFI alumnus who has directed numerous short films. After the horror movie, Bad Bloom, with Vera Farmiga attached to play the lead, was unable to proceed with production, he will make his feature film directing debut with Night Swim. After working behind the camera for all of his short film efforts, McGuire has written the script for a few movies and is now easing his way into the world of feature films. He co-wrote the script for the upcoming thriller Baghead, starring Saffron Burrows and Freya Allan (The Witcher). McGuire and Blumhouse will collaborate once more on Night Swim because the filmmaker previously worked on Never Ever.

Russell, who co-stars with Florence Pugh and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the upcoming Marvel movie Thunderbolts, is best known for his role as John Walker in the MCU series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He will appear in a future Godzilla series on AppleTV+ alongside Kurt Russell and Anna Sawai. His most recent appearances include the movies Everybody Wants Some!!, Folk Hero & Funny Guy, and Ingrid Goes West, as well as the FX Mormon series, Under the Banner of Heaven, and the Mormon movie series. His second Blumhouse endeavor, Night Swim, will come after the Showtime limited series The Good Lord Bird.

In the critically praised tragicomedy The Banshees of Inisherin, Condon just made a name for herself and was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress. She is also familiar with the MCU as she lent her voice to many MCU movies, including Avengers: Endgame, as Friday. She will soon be seen with Liam Neeson and Ciarán Hinds in the suspenseful film In The Land Of Saints And Sinners.

Night Swim joins the increasing list of joint projects between Jason Blum’s Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, which also includes the recently released M3GAN and the future films Insidious: Fear the Dark, They Listen, The Exorcist, and Five Nights at Freddy’s. It’s obvious that the combination of these two horror powerhouses will delight audiences indefinitely.

The production of Night Swim is planned to start soon, with a likely release date of January 19, 2024, and Universal handling distribution. Executive producing alongside Blum and Wan are Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Ryan Turek from Blumhouse, and Michael Clear from Atomic Monster.
