David O. Russell’s “Super Toys” will be headed by Keke Palmer and Sacha Baron Cohen

A European Film Market film has reportedly signed its first two stars, according to Deadline. The next film Super Toys will star Keke Palmer and Sacha Baron Cohen, according to the rumour. The couple will portray a husband and wife toy sales team who are on “a life-and-death journey to save themselves, their marriage, and their live-wire 12-year-old daughter while on the road in Middle America” in the 1970s.

From his own screenplay, David O. Russell will helm the project. The announcement comes after the release of his most recent project, Amsterdam, at the end of the previous year. Super Toys is being made by Matthew Budman of Dreamcrew Entertainment and Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment. International sales are being handled by FilmNation Entertainment, and CAA is in charge of U.S. distribution.

Both Palmer and Cohen have enjoyed successful recent years in their respective careers. Palmer recently commanded attention after appearing in Jordan Peele’s 2022 film Nope. She portrayed Emerald Haywood in it, who set out to record video footage of an unidentified extraterrestrial terrorising their tiny village with her brother OJ (Daniel Kaluuya). She provided her voice for several animated works, such as Pixar’s Lightyear and the Netflix series Human Resources, which will have a second season. In December 2022, she also made her Saturday Night Live hosting debut. She is now working on HBO Max’s Unfriendly Black Hotties television series.

Cohen’s most recent project, Luca from Pixar, in which he voiced Uncle Ugo, was released in 2021. However, one of his most well-known characters is Borat, and he made a comeback in the 2020 film Borat Subsequent Movie. Both the Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominations were given to the movie (Maria Bakalova). He’s reportedly in talks to join Apple TV+’s Disclaimer and will reportedly star in Marvel and Disney+’s Ironheart.

‘Russell’s Amsterdam’ Failed at the Box Office

Despite the star power already supporting Super Toys, Russell has faced difficulties in light of the negative reviews Amsterdam received; this despite the fact that the film also included notable casting with actors like Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, and many others. The film itself received a mixed bag of mostly unfavorable reviews, and throughout its theatrical run, it failed to generate the anticipated amount of revenue, leaving the project in the red rather than at least breaking even. Russell’s past performance is also a hindrance. Actors like Amy Adams and Lily Tomlin have spoken about the director’s abusive behavior while working on set, and his niece Nicole Peloquin has claimed that Russell sexually raped her.
