For the first time ever, Deep Impact will be released by Paramount Home Video in 4K UHD to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the spectacular disaster epic. A number of supplementary features included with the DVD, including one from the film’s Emmy-winning director Mimi Leader, promise to give viewers a greater understanding of the development of the movie (On the Basis of Sex). A completely remastered version of Deep Impact in clear 4K is a must-have for any collector of the genre because it features possibly one of the most realistic depictions of a catastrophic event ever seen in film.

A few days before the movie’s 25th anniversary on May 8, the 4K version, which supports Dolby Vision and HDR-10, will be made available for purchase on May 2. A brand-new poster depicting the sad moment the megatsunami started after comet fragments struck the earth will be included with the release, along with the movie on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and access to a digital copy of the movie.

As per usual, fans will receive supplementary material in the form of featurettes that will provide a detailed look inside the production of the movie. ‘Commentary by director Mimi Leder and visual effects supervisor Scott Farrar’, ‘Preparing For The End,’ ‘Making An Impression,’ ‘Building The Ideal Traffic Jam,’ and ‘Parting Thoughts’ are the titles of the supplementary material. A photo gallery and videos will also be part of the bundle.

Numerous movies have examined the conceivable scenario of asteroids wiping out humanity, but Deep Impact stood out by providing a genuinely scientific viewpoint. The 1998 video shows mankind’s reaction to a massive asteroid named “Wolf-Beiderman” that is speeding towards the earth from space and measures 11 km broad.

With just one year to prevent the crash, the US administration teams up with Russia in an odd alliance to send a group of astronauts through the Messiah spacecraft, whose goal is to change the comet’s course away from the planet. With its notion of the lottery system, where the wealthy and privileged are pre-selected to be preserved in an underground cavern, Deep Impact was praised for showing the emotional impact the tragic scenario had on the human population.

Upon release, “Deep Impact” enjoyed success at the box office.

Although initially receiving negative reviews from critics, Deep Impact was a box office success, earning $350 million on a $80 million budget. Fans today regard the movie as a masterpiece. Deep Impact, although being a terrifying disaster story, has the kind of thrill that will have you coming back for multiple viewings. For these reasons and more, fans believe Deep Impact to be an iconic contribution to the doomsday cliche.

The movie, which also starred Robert Duvall, Téa Leoni, Elijah Wood, Vanessa Redgrave, Leelee Sobieski, Blair Underwood, Maximilian Schell, and Morgan Freeman, was executive produced by Steven Spielberg.
