The dust has finally settled on Michael's funeral after a few months....
‘Halloween’ stuntman and Michael Myers performer George P. Wilbur passed away at age 81
George P. Wilbur, a well-known stuntman and actor in Hollywood, passed away this past Wednesday at the age of 81. Wilbur had a more than 60-year career, but the actor will be best known for his various horror-related roles. Especially in the films Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers from 1988 and Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers from 1995 as Michael Myers. The return of Michael Myers, a fan favorite in the cherished slasher franchise, made Wilbur one of the best actors to ever don the famous white mask in the eyes of many fans.
Wilbur began his acting career in the 1960s filling in for John Wayne. Later, he would work on movies like The Running Man and Escape from the Planet of the Apes and appear in TV series like Mission: Impossible, The Six Million Dollar Man, Magnum P.I., and Dynasty. Famous genre movies like Die Hard, Total Recall, Casino, and Spider-Man all featured his stunt work.

The Halloween Legacy of Wilbur
The Halloween franchise was entering a new phase when Wilbur portrayed Michael Myers in Return of Michael Myers. The series experimented with the anthology genre in 1982’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch after Michael Myers’ “definitive” death by fire at the conclusion of Halloween II. Although the movie is now deservedly regarded as a cult masterpiece, many fans were upset at the time because Michael Myers wasn’t present.
This led us to Myers’ triumphant comeback in 1988. The franchise might have been permanently over if this specific Michael Myers movie had bombed, but Wilbur single-handedly revived the terror in “The Shape” with his ominous presence and threatening movements that were more in keeping with Nick Castle’s initial performance in the original. Even though Curse of Michael Myers, in which he reprised his role as the legendary slasher villain, wasn’t as well received, Halloween 4 is now regarded as a cult classic among horror aficionados, and Michael Myers’ appearance there is perhaps one of the characters greatest.
Halloween wouldn’t be where it is today without Wilbur’s incredible efforts. The horror equivalent of being granted the role of Batman or James Bond is wearing the Michael Myers mask. There is a great deal of responsibility involved, and Wilbur, along with many others, made a significant contribution to this iconic slasher franchise. Gena Wilbur, the actor’s daughter, is the only heir. During this trying time, our thoughts are with his family and friends.
Watching Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, which is currently streaming on Shudder, is a wonderful way to honor Wilbur’s incredible legacy.
