Cocaine Bear shatters global box office with $52 million
Cocaine Bear shattered the world box office in its second weekend of release. The comedy-horror movie, which debuted in Greece this weekend, made $14.1 million internationally, pushing its global total to over $52 million.
The movie, which is available in 52 different countries, has outperformed popular movies like Violent Night, Good Boys, and Beast, all of which were huge worldwide hits.
Cocaine Bear made $28 million in box office revenue during its opening weekend. This weekend, the thriller/action movie made over $11 million domestically, making its cumulative revenue $41.2 million.
The highly publicized movie brought in $3.1 million abroad, bringing its global total to almost $10.7 million. The movie has a $30–35 million budget.
Cocaine Bear experienced a -40% decline internationally while suffering a -53% decline at home.
It’s not surprising that Cocaine Bear is such a hit considering the movie’s trailer was released shortly after the true event that served as its inspiration went viral.
On the topic of Cocaine Bear’s high performance at the box office, Universal president of domestic distribution Jim Orr said, “It’s an outrageous comedy that absolutely delivers on its premise. People were ready to see something over the top.”
David A. Gross, who is the owner of a movie consulting firm called Franchise Entertainment Research, said, “Audiences tend to be tough after being grossed out. Horror comedies benefit from the outrageous, and this story of an accidentally cocaine-crazed bear is wacko.”
