Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson break news of their baby son’s arrival
Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson broke news about their new baby's arrival....
Keke Palmer will both star in and produce the comedy movie ‘The Backup’
Keke Palmer will feature in and produce The Backup, a new comedy from Universal, following her highly praised performance in Nope. Kevin Hart, an actor, and comedian will also produce. Palmer will play Alyssa, playboy Ben’s best friend since childhood, in The Backup, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In the movie, she tells Ben that she is engaged to a handsome millionaire and asks him to be her best man just as Ben is about to confess his feelings for her and his desire to start a family. Ben, however, travels with his team to Maui for her destination wedding in an effort to humiliate Alyssa’s fiance and win her back. The script was co-written by actor Chris Brew (Black-ish, Being Mary Jane, Insecure), who also collaborated with Jordan Gouveia on the miniseries The Elements, and the director has not yet been chosen for the movie.
Akeelah and the Bee, True Jackson, VP, and Barbershop 2: Back in Business were among Palmer’s early roles as a child actor for which she won an NAACP Image Award. Before making a breakthrough in 2022 with roles in Jordan Peele’s sci-fi satire Nope, the revenge thriller Alice, and Pixar’s Lightyear, she had roles in the Ryan Murphy horror series Scream Queens, the Epix spy drama Berlin Station, and important supporting roles in Joyful Noise and Hustlers.
She presented Saturday Night Live in December to wrap out the year and made it known that she was expecting her first child. She will soon be seen co-starring with Sacha Baron Cohen in David O. Russell’s Super Toys and as a member of the supporting cast in Aziz Ansari’s feature film debut Being Mortal. She is also working on the HBO Max satirical high school sitcom Unfriendly Black Hotties. She also sings, and in 2007 she published her debut record, So Uncool.
Hart and Bryan Smile of Hartbeat Productions, who have worked together to produce a number of Hart’s previous works, including Night School, The Man From Toronto, and this year’s Die Hart, will produce The Backup. Palmer’s production firm, Big Boss Entertainment, will be used to produce alongside her mother, Sharon Palmer. With Autumn Bailey Entertainment, Autumn Bailey-Ford (On a Wing and a Prayer, Billy Knight) will serve as co-producer. Patricia Braga and Kayla Stamps from Hartbeat will serve as executive producers.
