‘Mean Girls’ Movie Musical sets its main cast
Angourie Rice, Auli'i Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey, and Reneé Rapp join The Plastics....
Mean Girls has established a reputation as a cinematic classic
Almost 20 years after its first premiere on the big screen in 2003, Mean Girls has earned a reputation as a cinematic classic and continues to be relevant today. Without a question, the comedy has had a significant impact on the genre and cemented itself in popular culture, giving its ensemble cast recognizable names.
The chick flick, which starred Lindsay Lohan as the formerly homeschooled transferee Cady Heron, along with Rachel McAdams as Regina George, Amanda Seyfried as Karen Smith, and Lacey Chabert as Gretchen Wieners, has only grown in popularity over time, in part because of its witty one-liners that are still “so fetch!” (Yes, we’re making that happen). The Mean Girls the Musical has officially started filming, and Mean Girls creator Tina Fey is once more painting the theater’s walls pink.
Mean Girls the Musical, which was nominated for several Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Choreography brought the 2004 hit movie to Broadway in 2018. Mean Girls was written by Fey. The musical will now be turned into a movie, and the impending musical movie’s official Instagram and Twitter profiles both confirmed that work had begun.
The upcoming film’s plot is much like the original and the musical it was based on: it follows Africa-born Cady Heron navigating a chaotic jungle called the North Shore High School, struggling to fit in with any of the different types of cliques, such as—to name a few—the Art Freaks, Asian Nerds, Burnouts, Varsity Jocks, and the so-called Omegas, consisting of Janis (Lizzy Caplan) and Damian (Daniel Franzese), whom Cady befriended. Then there are the three bullies: the one with the long, secretive hair, the one who inquires as to how to spell “orange,” and the “evil” boss who becomes human form.
In the course of the movie, Cady joins The Plastics, hangs out with the other three, writes for Burn Book, and deals with her anxieties, peer pressure, love affairs, and betrayals.
The cast of Mean Girls the Musical will feature both fresh and recognizable names, including Reneé Rapp, who will reprise her role as Regina, Tim Meadows, who will play Principal Duval, and Tina Fey, who will play Ms. Norbury. Bebe Wood plays Gretchen; Angourie Rice plays Cady; Auli’i Cravalho plays Janis; Jaquel Spivey plays Damian; and Christopher Briney plays Aaron Samuels. Avantika will play Karen. The Office veteran Jenna Fischer will play Cady’s mom while Girls5eva star Busy Philipps will play “cool mom” Mrs. George.
Viewers are undoubtedly anticipating the new movie, especially since they will get to watch Regina George victimizing anyone whenever she feels like it, Gretchen trying to make fetch happen, and Karen learning the norms of feminism. Are carbs in butter? The response won’t be available until the movie appears on a big screen. Mean Girls Musical currently lacks a release date, but keep checking Collider for updates. You can watch the trailer for the first movie again here, but remember that “Wednesdays, we wear pink!”
