A BRAVE anti-war activist stormed Russia’s main propaganda news show, carrying a sign that read, “They’re lying to you.”
The sign for Marina Ovsyannikova also stated “As she chanted, “Stop the war!” and “Don’t believe the propaganda!” War must be avoided!”
She is believed to be an editor at Channel One, which was airing the live news programme she stormed this evening.
Marina, whose father is Ukrainian and mother is Russian, was arrested and will face charges of undermining Russian military forces.
During a video she filmed before the protest, she blamed Putin for the war and apologised for her role on state television.
“What is happening in Ukraine is a crime, and Russia is the aggressor,” she said.
“Vladimir Putin bears sole responsibility for this aggression.
“My father is Ukrainian, and my mother is Russian, but they were never adversaries. This necklace demonstrates that Russia must put an end to this fratricidal war.
“Unfortunately, I’ve spent the last few years working for Channel One.
“I’ve been doing Kremlin propaganda, and I’m ashamed of it – that I let people lie on TV screens and allowed the Russian people to become zombies.
“We didn’t say anything in 2014, when it was just getting started.” When the Kremlin poisoned Navalny, we didn’t say anything. We just stood there silently watching this inhuman regime.
“Now the entire world has turned against us, and ten generations of our descendants will not be able to wash away this fratricidal war.”
She changed her Facebook profile picture to one with a dove and olive branch icon yesterday.
The photo is thought to have been taken at the same time she was filming the video.
Due to strict censorship rules, the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta published a picture of the incident with Ovsyannikova’s sign blurred out.
Since the beginning of the invasion, Russian police have arrested at least 14,911 anti-war protestors.
Over 800 people were arrested by police during a protest yesterday alone.
An AFP journalist reporting from a protest in Moscow’s capital saw at least a dozen arrests and said police were taking away anyone without press credentials.
According to the journalist, a young woman shouted “peace to the world” as she was led away by two police officers.
According to the AFP reporter, some of the riot police wore helmets with the letter “Z” in the colours of the Russian flag.
The letter, which has been seen on Russian tanks and vehicles in Ukraine, has come to represent support for Moscow’s invasion.
Putin has also cracked down on the free press by closing independent news outlets.
And state media outlets are forced to call his war in Ukraine a “special military operation”, rather than an invasion.
