RAMALLAH, March 22 (Xinhua) — Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki on Monday said the European Union (EU) was still withholding its financial aid from the treasury of the Palestinian Authority (PA).
The EU insists on its position that the Palestinian curriculum be amended before resuming the financial support suspended two years ago, al-Maliki told Voice of Palestine.
The amendment that the EU is seeking requires the use of textbooks that promote coexistence, tolerance and peace education with Israel in line with the goals of the two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
However, the Palestinian Ministry of Education asserted that the Palestinian curriculum is “a national sovereignty and no one has the right to amend it.”
Al-Maliki said Palestine completely rejected setting conditions for the funding of its treasury, calling the EU’s move an international embarrassment.
