According to his grieving father, the 14-year-old kid who died after falling from an Orlando amusement park ride requested the friend strapped in next to him to tell his parents he loved them in case “I don’t make it down.”
Tyre Samson, according to Yarnell Samson, felt unsafe as soon as the “Orlando Free-Fall” attraction at ICON Park began to rise.
“When the ride took off, that’s when he started feeling uneasy.” He was like, ‘this thing is moving,’ if you know what I mean. And he was like, ‘What’s up?'” Samson stated to a news channel.
“And that’s when he began freaking out,” the father went on to say.
“If I don’t make it down, tell…,” the adolescent said to his pal beside him. “Please tell my mother and father how much I adore them.”
“For him to say anything like that, he must have felt something,” Samson told the site.
On Thursday, his kid was approximately halfway down the 430-foot drop when he fatally fell from the bicycle. He died after being taken to a nearby hospital.
The distraught father is demanding to know why his 6-foot-5, 340-pound son was permitted on the ride despite being barred from boarding others due to his height.
“This one specific ride decided, ‘yes, we’re going to take you, come on, hop on,'” Samson told the Orlando station.
“So I’d like to know what transpired between now and then that caused them to say, ‘come on, you can get on this ride,'” he continued.
Tyre and two of his best buddies were on the attraction. The lads had journeyed from Missouri to Orlando.
“This should never, ever happen to anybody else’s child again,” he added. “And if I have anything to do with it, it will never happen again.”
The “Orlando Free Fall” theme park had just recently opened at the end of December. According to the park’s website, it is the world’s tallest free-standing drop tower, towering at 430 feet. The experience transports 30 guests as it ascends, turns around the tower, and then tilts to face the earth before free falling at speeds of up to 75 miles per hour.
The attraction has over-the-shoulder restraint belts with two hand grips at the chest level that passengers pull down and are automatically released at the end of the ride.
On Friday, one inspector was observed sitting in a ride seat with the security strap over his shoulders while another inspection collected measurements.
