Kyiv: Borodyanka, a village west of the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, is where the bodies of nine citizens, some showing indications of torture, were found in Borodyanka, a senior police official said.

“These people were killed by the occupiers, and some show signs of torture. I want to emphasise that these people were civilians. The Russian military knowingly shot civilians who did not put up any resistance, “Andriy Niebytov, the regional police chief for Kyiv, made the announcement overnight on Wednesday into Thursday.

The pullout of Russian soldiers from towns and villages around Kyiv left a trail of civilian dead, beginning with discoveries in Bucha, that have led Ukrainian officials to accuse Russia of genocide.

Niebytov said police had uncovered two burials in Borodyanka.

In one cemetery, three people, including a 15-year-old girl, were uncovered, while a second grave included the death of six people, he said.

All of them were locals, he noted.

In the initial stages of the February 24 assault, authorities in Kyiv said hundreds of remains of civilians dead have been discovered in areas controlled by Russian forces around the capital.
