Australia will provide howitzers and ammunition to Ukraine

Ukraine will receive more heavy artillery weapons and ammo from Australia. According to Ukrinform, this is according to the Australian Associated Press.

As Russia intensifies its onslaught in the Donbas region, Ukraine will get six M777 lightweight towed howitzers, as well as ammunition, as part of a $26.7 million military assistance package.

It brings Australia’s military aid to Ukraine to $225 million, with another $65 million in humanitarian help and more than 70,000 tonnes of thermal coal delivered.

“The Australian government will continue to identify options for additional military assistance where it is able to equip the Ukraine Armed Forces with a required capacity as quickly as possible,” Morrison said.

The new assistance package came as Australian officials attended a meeting on the response to Ukraine convened by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at the Rammstein air base in Germany.

Vasyl Myroshnychenko, Ukraine’s ambassador to Australia, has emphasised the necessity for more military supplies to be provided to the besieged country.
