Canada eases Covid travel restrictions

Canadian authorities on Friday further said a quarantine plan is no longer required and passengers from India are no longer required to be disguised in public for 14 days following arrival.

The federal government has not repealed the mask law. “All travelers, regardless of vaccination status, must also continue to wear a mask throughout their entire travel journey,” the PHAC stated in a statement.

Canada “continues to take a measured approach to adjusting border measures,”  said Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos.

The new rules take effect Monday at 1 am (10.30 am IST).

Vaccinated visitors to Canada will no longer be required to monitor for symptoms, quarantine if another visitor in the same travel group develops symptoms or tests positive, or keep track of close contacts and travel destinations.

While fully vaccinated individuals do not need to show pre-entry results, those who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated must do so before boarding a flight to Canada.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated children aged 5 to 11 must be accompanied by a fully vaccinated parent, stepparent, guardian, or tutor.

Children under the age of 5 are already exempt.

A statement said, “All travelers, regardless of vaccination status, must also continue to wear a mask throughout their entire travel journey.”

“The health and safety of Canadians remains our top priority, and as vaccination levels and healthcare system capacity improve, we will continue to consider further easing of measures at the borders based on science,” said Duclos.

Those not fully vaccinated will be screened with Covid-19 molecular tests upon arrival and on Day 8 and will be quarantined for 14 days.
