Hungary: Budapest malls under bomb threat

Numerous retail centres in Budapest and the surrounding countryside have also been evacuated after receiving bomb threats via email. The Westend, Arena Plaza, and Árkád shopping centres, as well as the Kapos Plaza in Kaposvár and a store in Debrecen were evacuated after the warning.

Bomb squad investigators have combed over the damaged areas. According to the police, an inquiry into the source and identity of the bomb threat has been requested.

According to one of the security officers, it would be at least four hours before they could re-enter. Additionally, there was a bomb scare at MOM-park, Corvin-plaza, and Mammut.

“We have received information of threats to public safety in many areas around the nation,” the National Police Headquarters’ communication section stated. The places are still being searched by police bomb investigators. There were no bombs or explosive devices discovered.”

Győr Plaza got a threat through email. The BRFK has initiated an inquiry on the public threat offence. Police are actively searching for the culprit and have taken all required precautions. Three weeks ago, bomb strikes occurred in Budapest shopping centers.

The bomb threat was sent by e-mail in each of these instances. Although no specific figures on how many people were evacuated from the impacted malls as a result of the bomb fear have been released, tens of thousands of individuals across Hungary are believed to have been affected.

The Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Central Hospital, the downtown MV Railway Station Office, the Miskolc Plaza, and the Szinvapark all received bomb threats on Tuesday, according to the county police headquarters’ spokesman.
