In the beleaguered city of Mariupol, there are signs of a possible breakthrough in securing at least one evacuation route.
Mariupol city council stated, “There is hope for the evacuation of Mariupol inhabitants to territory held by Ukraine.”
Although the council is still waiting for confirmation, the post states that the evacuation from Port City, a shopping mall, will take place today.
“The occupiers allowed movement between the Left Bank district and other districts of the city on the right bank. The movement is open across the bridge to Mukhino,” said Petro Andriushchenko.
Within this time, it’s unknown whether everyone trapped at the Azovstal steel manufacturing complex will be evacuated.
Mariupol still has 100,000 residents, or about a quarter of its pre-war population.
