The japan coast guard says that at least 10 people have been killed after a tourist boat went missing from the northern Japanese island in Hokkaido.

The search is accumulated. There were 16 other people who were on board the Kazu 1 vessel.

The boat lost contact after it went into the water at 13:15, on Saturday.

The sightseeing boat is said to have been on a three-hour voyage around the Shiretoko Peninsula.

These boat trips are popular with the tourists as they hope to spot whales, sea lions, and brown bears on the rocky beaches.

As per Japanese media, the crew told that the boat was tipping at a 30-degree angle, and started to sink.

After the incident, patrol boats, police, and military craft were instantly dispatched for the rescue.

Local fishing boats also took part in the search for the missing people.

Some reports suggested that several people were pulled out of the water, but the situation remains ambiguous.

It is not confirmed that the people rescued were among the 10 who died.
