Labour has criticized the Conservatives for being soft on crime in the wake of revelations that serial knife criminals are often spared jail.
In certain counties, the percentage of serial knife offenders evading incarceration was greater than 30% during the past five years.
The party said it demonstrated that a 2015 Tory vow to sentence serial knife criminals for at least six months is “in tatters.”
Labour leader Keir Starmer committed to “restore trust in law and order” following the shocking disclosures.
He warned of a “victims’ crisis,” noting that more than one in four victims abandoned their claims last year before their cases were resolved.
“As Director of Public Prosecutions, I witnessed the critical significance of victims knowing they would be backed to the hilt until justice was done,” he added.
Conservatives have wreaked havoc on the system.”
According to national crime statistics, 44% of serial knife criminals escaped incarceration last year.
Between June 2011 and last year, repeat offenses increased from 12% to 18%.
“This evidence demonstrates that bungling Dominic Raab (Justice Secretary) and this law-breaking Conservative administration are soft on crime,” Shadow Justice Secretary Steve Reed stated.
