Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that his invasion of Ukraine will fulfil its “noble” aims. Mr. Putin claimed when speaking with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko that a conflict with Ukraine had become “inevitable”
He also claimed that he had no choice but to launch the assault in order to protect the Russian-speaking Donbas region.
Since the invasion began, the UN estimates that ten million people have fled their homes.
But on a 61st anniversary of Yuri Gagarin becoming the first man in space, Mr Putin insisted that his forces are are assisting oppressed people in separatist regions of Ukraine
“On the one hand, we are helping and saving people, and on the other, we are simply taking measures to ensure the security of Russia itself,” the 69-year old insisted.
he said that “It’s clear that we didn’t have a choice. It was the right decision,”, by adding it “the goals are perfectly clear, they are noble.”
Since the invasion began, more than 10 million people have been forced to evacuate their homes, and the Russian economy has been shattered by a package of evere sanctions imposed by Western nations.
Although, the Russian president said that Russia does not “intend to be isolated”, arguing that it is “impossible to severely isolate anyone in the modern world – especially such a vast country as Russia”.
The Russian leader, speaking from the Vostochny Cosmodrome, about 3,450 miles (5550 kilometres) east of Moscow, drew on the Soviet space program’s accomplishment, comparing Gagarin’s success during the Cold War to Russia’s current international isolation.
Mr Putin stated, “The sanctions were total, the isolation was complete, yet the Soviet Union was still first in space.”
Mr. Lukashenko again brushed down the impact of sanctions, asking Mr. Putin, “Why on earth are we getting so worked up about these sanctions?”
The UK government anticipated that Russia is expected to enter its severe recession since the collapse of the Soviet Union
