A 76-year-old women’s husband spoke about the incident, her wife was attacked by a rat while sleeping and left caked in blood.
Following the rodent’s attack, John Kirk, 85, awoke to discover his wife Diana covered in bites and claw marks.
The rat, which had been hidden in the couple’s home in Bingham, Nottinghamshire, had also chewed on the pensioner’s eyelids, fingers, and elbow.
Ms. Kirk, 76, has a variety of health issues, including dementia and Parkinson’s disease.
Following an accident down the stairs six years ago, she suffered brain damage and is unable to feel pain.
Ms. Kirk sleeps in a downstairs area of the couple’s home due to her health issues.
Mr. Kirk, a retired tank driver, described his 36-year-old wife’s injuries as “horrific.”
He admitted, “At first, I assumed Diana had been shot.” “There was blood all throughout.” The rat had attempted to eat her in order to obtain her blood. Her cheek and lips were covered in bite marks. Diana’s fingers and elbow had also been badly bitten.”
“The only saving grace is that Diana didn’t know anything about it,” he continued. Because of her brain injury, she is unable to feel pain.”
The night before Ms. Kirk, a retired John Lewis shop clerk, was attacked, Mr. Kirk stated he heard scratching sounds coming from the living room.
“We had a rat in the house before Christmas that the council came and took rid of, and I assumed that was the last of it,” he explained.
