The official, who was not quickly recognized, discharged the weapon in the lunchroom of the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, DC, Tuesday morning around 8:30 am, US Capitol Police told.
Sources acquainted with the matter told DC outlet Roll Call that the release was unintentional. No wounds were accounted for following the episode, cops said, adding that the official has since been suspended.
