
According to Iryna Vereshchuk, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister “All women, children and elderly people” have been evacuated from the Azovstal steel plant.
“The order of the president has been done,” she said.
“This part of the Mariupol humanitarian operation has been completed.”
A civilian evacuation took place without incident.
Mykhailo Vershynin, the chief of the Mariupol Patrol Police, made the remarks.
He gave no information on how many people were able to leave.
Separately, the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ general staff stated that Russian forces continue to blockade Ukrainian troops inside the factory.
They are conducting assault operations with artillery and tank fire.
More than 100 civilians, including children, were believed to be trapped inside the enormous compound, along with several hundred soldiers, many of whom were injured.
