Asani cyclone is expected to grow into a “severe cyclonic storm” in the next 12 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
The weather service warned that cyclone Asani is expected to move northwestwards and build into a ‘Severe Cyclonic Storm.’
“The cyclonic storm ‘Asani’ moved northwestwards over the Bay of Bengal with a speed of 13 km/ph and lay centered about 480 km westnorthwest of Car Nicoba.”
“400 km west of Port Blair, 940 km southeast of Visakhapatnam, and 1000 km south southeast of Puri, on May 8.”
It’s expected to continue moving northwestwards until May 10 evening.
It will reach west-central and bordering northwest Bay of Bengal near the shores of North Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
It is highly likely to recurve north-northeastwards after that.
Odisha and West Bengal administrations have taken all necessary precautions to deal with the issue.
