Seven buses transporting Ukrainian rebels who fought Russian forces for weeks at the Azovstal steelworks in the coastal city of Mariupol arrived on Tuesday at a former penal colony in the Russian-controlled town of Olenivka near Donetsk.

The Russian Investigative Committee planned to examine the soldiers, many of whom were members of the Azov Battalion.

They were part of an investigation into “Ukrainian regime crimes,” according to the TASS news agency.
