Bradford: A gun-wielding imposter has been imprisoned in connection with a police standoff

A court heard that police used a stun gun to arrest an intoxicated man after he refused to drop an imitation pistol during a stand-off at his residence.

When police were summoned to Bolton Road in Bradford on December 3, Glynn Bower pulled out the blank-firing handgun.

The 32-year-old had previously used the firearm to threaten two men on the street after arguing with one about his dog, according to Bradford Crown Court.

Bower pled guilty to three firearms offences and was sentenced to two years in prison.

Bower, a care home worker, first produced the firearm on the night of December 2, 2021, following a disagreement with a neighbour about his noisy dog, according to prosecutor Helen Chapman.

She claimed that when another man became involved, Bower brought the pistol out a second time and fired at the man.

Bower then asked both men back to his house for a drink, according to the court.

Ms Chapman stated that when the man with the dog went, Bower shut the door and fell asleep on a sofa with an axe on his chest.

Bower awoke and began behaving strangely and muttering about the devil, according to the barrister, as the second guy attempted to leave.

Bower then followed the man outside and attempted to strangle him before the man hit Bower and broke free, according to her.

Ms Chapman claimed that when police arrived at Bower’s residence at about 02:00 GMT, he could be seen through the door carrying the axe.

She said in court that when he finally opened his front door, he lifted his weapon at one of the cops, at which moment he was shot with a stun gun by police.

Bower pled guilty to three counts of having an imitation handgun with the aim to instil fear of violence, as well as one count of common assault.
