According to Britain’s defense intelligence, Russia’s advance in Donbas has slowed and is now far behind schedule. “Russia’s Donbas offensive has lost momentum and fallen substantially behind schedule,” the agency said in a recent tweet.
Despite small-scale initial victories, Russia has been unable to make significant territory gains in the last month while maintaining high levels of attrition, according to the assessment.
According to the service, Russia has likely lost a third of the ground combat force it committed in February.
The loss of crucial enablers like bridge equipment and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance drones will very probably compound these delays.
Throughout the fight, Russian bridging equipment has been in short supply, limiting and hampering offensive maneuvering. Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are thought to be critical for tactical awareness and artillery direction, however they have been vulnerable to Ukrainian anti-air capabilities.
According to the report, “Russian forces are increasingly limited by degraded enabling capabilities, low morale, and reduced combat efficiency.”
Many of these capabilities, according to British intelligence analysts, cannot be rapidly replaced or rebuilt and will continue to obstruct Russian activities in Ukraine.
The analysis says, “Under existing conditions, Russia is unlikely to drastically enhance its rate of advance during the next 30 days.”
