Elon Musk’s mother lashed out against The New York Times this week.

She claimed that her son was “separated from apartheid’s crimes” during his childhood in South Africa.

The New York Times publicized the article on Twitter on Thursday morning, claiming Musk was “surrounded by anti-Black propaganda” as a child.

She stated that vocally opposing apartheid would result in incarceration.

Maye Musk tweeted, “In South Africa, if you publicly opposed apartheid, you went to jail.”

“In Russia, if you publicly oppose the war, you go to jail,” she said.

Musk was a child and should not be held responsible for his government’s activities, she added.

“Are you going to blame children for government decisions?” Maye Musk enquired.

Her remark was in response to the story “Elon Musk Left a South Africa Ripe with Misinformation and White Privilege.”

Many in the mainstream media fear that Musk’s $44 billion purchase of Twitter last month will result in a torrent of disinformation on the social media site.

As his prior comments express a dedication to free speech.

According to the reporters, “Mr. Musk has heralded his purchase of Twitter as a victory for free speech, having criticized the platform for removing posts and banning users.”

The story continued, “It is unclear what role his childhood — coming up in a time and place in which there was hardly a free exchange of ideas and where government misinformation was used to demonize Black South Africans — may have played in that decision.”
