Gavin Newsom is infected with COVID-19
California Governor Gavin Newsom tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, a day after meeting with New Zealand’s visiting Prime Minister.
Newsom has moderate symptoms and will be kept in isolation at least until Thursday, or until he tests negative, according to his office. During that period, the Democratic governor intends to work from home.
According to his office, Newsom, 54, will begin a five-day prescription of the antiviral Paxlovid.
The governor’s office stated that it had contacted New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s delegation. On Friday, the two leaders gathered in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park to establish a climate change collaboration. Earlier last month, Ardern tested positive for the virus.
The governor’s office stated that it does not know how Newsom became infected with the virus. He is immunised and has his second booster shot this month.
Other public leaders, like Washington Gov. Jay Inslee on Wednesday and Vice President Kamala Harris last month, have lately tested positive for the virus.
