Germany signs a new swap deal with Greece to deliver fighting vehicles to Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that Germany will provide infantry fighting vehicles (IFV) to Greece so that the Greek government can pass on Soviet-style armaments to Ukraine.

He went on to say that he had reached an arrangement with Greece’s prime minister.

Mr. Scholz did not specify what type of infantry fighting vehicles Berlin will provide over to Greece, nor what armaments Athens will hand over to Kyiv.

“The defense ministries will work out the details and quickly implement this agreement,” he said.

According to a defense source, Berlin plans to deliver 100 old Marder IFVs to Greece, which are owned by arms manufacturer Rheinmetall.

Athens would supply Ukraine with Soviet-style BMP IFVs in exchange.

Germany has been chastised for delaying heavy arms transfers to Kyiv, despite the fact that numerous other countries have already provided the country with materiel.
