According to the county authorities, persistent heavy rain that began hammering Qiubei County in southwest China’s Yunnan Province on Thursday has claimed four lives as of 4:30 p.m. Friday, with four people still missing.

More than 120,000 people were affected in 12 townships, and communications and electrical facilities were badly destroyed, with 27,000 families enduring power outages.

More than 600 individuals have been moved to safety as a result of the severe rainfall. Over 12,000 hectares of crops were destroyed, and over 130 roads or basic bridges were destroyed.

Personnel from the power supply, communications, transportation, and fire departments have been rushed to the impacted regions to assist with rescue and relief operations, while efforts to find the missing persons are ongoing.
