The Israeli media sates that the Israeli military has no plans to investigate the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh.
They prompted her family to urge for a transparent investigation.
The Israel’s Military Police Criminal Probe Division says, an investigation that portrays Israeli soldiers as suspects will elicit hostility from Israeli society.
According to witnesses and colleagues who were present when Abu Akleh, 51, was shot by an Israeli soldier last Wednesday while documenting an Israeli military raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.
She was slain by an Israeli soldier.
Abu Akleh’s family responded to the report by saying they were not surprised that the Israeli military might not investigate her death.
“We were expecting this from the Israeli side. That’s why we didn’t want them to participate in the investigation,” the family stated.
“We want to hold whoever is responsible for these acts accountable.”
“We urge the United States in particular – since she is a US citizen – and the international community to open a just and transparent investigation and to put an end to the killings.”
The seasoned reporter was a US citizen who lived in occupied East Jerusalem.
She covered the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip for nearly three decades.
