Jif peanut butter products are being recalled due to an outbreak of salmonella

Multiple Jif peanut butter products are being recalled owing to a salmonella incident related to a manufacturing plant in Lexington, Kentucky.

The iconic peanut butter brand’s parent business, J.M. Smucker Co., announced a voluntary recall on Friday. The incident, which has spread to 12 states, is being investigated by the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and local partners.

According to data provided by the CDC, 14 persons have reported illnesses, with two of those cases resulting in hospitalizations.

“Five out of five persons reported eating peanut butter before being ill,” according to the FDA. “Four out of five people specifically mentioned eating different varieties of Jif brand peanut butter before becoming ill.”
