The Oakland Police Department in the western US state of California announced on Monday that they were investigating a gunshot incident that left one man dead near a park in Berkeley Hills on Sunday evening.
The Berkeley Police Department contacted Oakland authorities about the event, and it was discovered that the victim was in Oakland, according to Oakland police spokesperson Kim Armstead, as quoted by Xinhua news agency.
He said that the incident was being investigated as a homicide.
The victim was discovered along the side of the road with obvious gunshot wounds. The man died at the scene of his injuries, and his identity is being kept until his next of kin is notified, according to the police.
According to the Oakland Police Department, there have been 41 homicides so far this year, compared to 49 at the same time last year.
