JERUSALEM: Two Palestinians were killed and another was wounded in separate incidents on Sunday in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and annexed east Jerusalem, officials said, the latest in a string of bloodshed.
The turmoil occurred only hours after two Palestinians were arrested on suspicion of assassinating three Israelis, and as a succession of anti-Israeli attacks and bloodshed have killed scores of people since late March, including Palestinian and Arab-Israeli culprits.
According to the IDF, a Palestinian armed with a knife invaded the Tekoa community in the southern West Bank before being shot by a resident.
According to a military statement, “Soldiers were dispatched to the scene and are searching the area for additional suspects.”
Motasem Attalah, 17, was killed by the Palestinian health ministry.
A police statement indicated that a 19-year-old Palestinian without an entrance visa for Israel attacked a police officer outside the Old City in east Jerusalem before being shot and “neutralised” by troops on the scene.
According to authorities, the officer was rushed to the hospital in moderate condition, and physicians reported that the stabber was not dead.
Earlier in the day, Israeli forces killed a Palestinian who attempted to enter Israel via the Jewish state’s barrier on the occupied West Bank’s northern outskirts.
According to an army statement, soldiers “identified a (person) trying to cross the security barrier” near Tulkarem. “The force shot at him in accordance with procedures. The suspect was taken for medical care.“
The Palestinian health ministry identified the deceased as Mahmud Eram, according to a representative for the Sheba hospital in central Israel.
Security authorities had previously apprehended two Palestinians accused of carrying out an axe assault in central Israel on Thursday that killed three people.
