Northern Michigan was devastated by a huge tornado

According to accounts, at than 20 people have been injured, and at least one person has died. A tornado warning was issued for Antrim and Otsego counties in Michigan, including Gaylord, at 3:38 p.m. local time (8:38 p.m. BST).

According to the National Weather Service, the tornado warning for Otsego County was revised about 10 minutes later to include a confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado, which was declared an emergency situation.

A tornado was detected by a National Weather Service employee at 3:48 p.m. local time near the crossroads of Michigan 32 and Murner Road, roughly 2 miles west of Gaylord (8:48 p.m.). Five minutes later, the tornado was observed again about 1 mile east of Gaylord.

Around the same time, large hail was reported to the west of Gaylord, including a 2 inch hail incident in Elmira, Michigan, about 10 miles west of Gaylord.

At least one large structure was destroyed, as well as other vehicles that were flipped and damaged. A mobile trailer and RV park were also severely damaged.

 More than 25,000 customers in northern Lower Michigan were without power by early Friday evening, but restoration is still ongoing.

After the vortex hit Gaylord, about 230 miles north of Detroit, Michigan State Police said an undetermined number of injured people were being transported to hospitals by ambulance.

 “Trees аnd power lines blocking roаdwаys,” Michigаn Stаte Police tweeted. Severаl homes аnd businesses hаve been dаmаged. The Gаylord аreа should be аvoided. Emergency crews аre on the wаy.”

“Heаvy dаmаge throughout the аreа,” they wrote, аlongside photos of dаmаge to а shopping center, а pizzа pаrlor, аnd а Goodwill store.
