50 people were evacuated from the Azovstal steel facility in Mariupol on Saturday.
The Ukrainian government and the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic said.
Andriy Yermak, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, “The evacuation of people from the Azovstal steel plant was very difficult. The Russians constantly provoked, did not stop firing, continued fighting.”
He said, “But we managed to take out 50 civilians. These are women, children and the elderly.”
“Our evacuation operation will continue; we will not stop,”
“The (cumulative) number of civilians evacuated from the territory of the metallurgical facility has reached 176 people,” the DPR’s territorial defense headquarters stated.
The United Nations and the International Red Cross, which have also been working to organize evacuations from the plant, have not confirmed the statements.
