On Kissinger’s statement, the US Department of State says: “Only Ukraine has the right to select its own future.”

The US will remain behind Ukraine for as long as it takes the Ukrainian side to win the war that Russia has started, and only Ukraine has the authority to decide its own destiny.

In a comment, the US Department of State issued the relevant statement.

In response to  information request about Washington’s official stance on former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger’s statement at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the US Department of State Spokesperson replied, “We firmly believe that only Ukraine has the right to decide its future.”

“We don’t know when this battle will end, but we do know this: Ukraine will emerge triumphant,” the US State Department stated. And the US will remain by Ukraine’s side for as long as it takes.”

Mr. Kissinger urged that Ukraine relinquish territory to Russia to aid in the end of the invasion. He pressed the West to force Ukraine to accept negotiations on the basis of the “status quo ante,” or the current condition of events. He also asked European leaders to keep Russia’s status in Europe in mind.
