The tourist boat that sank in Japan’s northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido last month was retrieved from the sea floor for the second time Friday and transported by barge to a nearby port.

According to the Japan Coast Guard, the vessel will be brought ashore as early as Sunday and completely emptied.

Following that, investigations into the actual cause of the 19-ton Kazu I taking on water in heavy weather, sinking, and leaving 14 dead and 12 missing will commence.
The Kazu I was carrying 26 passengers when it went missing on April 23 near the Shiretoko Peninsula in Japan’s northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido after making a distress call indicating that it was taking on water in high seas.
