According to the Hindustan Times, quoting anonymous officials, a school teacher from Assam, India, was arrested for allegedly smuggling beef in a lunchbox.

After several people filed a complaint against her, Dalima Nessa, the headmistress of Hurkachungi Middle English School, was placed in judicial prison.

Mrinal Deka, additional superintendent of police for the Goalpara area, said she appeared in court on Wednesday.

According to reports, Nessa brought steak to school and served it to her classmates. The incident occurred during an evaluation of government schools by the state’s education department.

The Assam Cattle Preservation Act restricts the selling of beef in places where the population is largely Hindu, Jain, or from other non-beef-eating ethnic groups.
