On a social media app he used, the 18-year-old who carried out a mass shooting in a Texas elementary school was dubbed “The Yubo School Shooter.”

Salvador Ramos killed 19 children and two teachers this week after shooting his grandma.

Ramos did not leave a statement explaining his conduct, but messages he wrote to strangers on the internet have been discovered.

These include boasts about purchasing a firearm and remarks in an internet audio chat-room that people “deserve to be raped.”

On the social media app Yubo, a 17-year-old girl met Ramos through a feature that allows users to join live audio chatrooms known as “lives.”

He would join these chatrooms and “threaten rape and kidnapping and murder”, she told.

He sent her and other girls private messages and threatened them if they did not react.

Another 17-year-old girl tells, “He would just harass people. He would threaten rape and kidnapping and murder.”

“He would say ‘do you even know who I am?’ [and] ‘you’ll be famous if you follow me’. He really wanted to be known for this.”

She further adds, “He was given the nickname Yubo’s school shooter.”

“People would join lives and be like, ‘Oh, hey, look it’s Yubo’s school shooter’.

“He never tried to shut down that nickname, he seemed almost proud of it, you know.”
