Mr. Shapps and his American counterpart, Pete Buttigieg, signed a proclamation on Wednesday promising to work together on future commercial space missions. The measure, according to the Department for Transport (DfT), will facilitate the launch of speedier and more efficient commercial space launch activities between the two countries.

The United Kingdom intends to launch its first satellite from its own territory from Spaceport Cornwall later this year.

“This transformational partnership is one giant leap for both countries as we prepare to launch an exciting new era of spaceflight,” Mr. Shapps said.

“The space industry is already injecting billions into our economy while providing high-skilled jobs, with seven spaceports being developed across the UK.”

“As we look beyond the UK’s first planned spaceflight later this year, I’m excited to see how this collaboration will accelerate innovation and opportunities.”
